Thaw point

04Aug11

As surely as rain follows a heatwave, a nuisance follows a good idea. The plum glut has revealed that the freezer doesn’t work properly. At least, I don’t think that it works properly.

If you put something, say 8 bags of plums each containing about 750 grams of fruit, into a freezer and set it to “fast freeze”, is it reasonable to expect them to be frozen 24 hours later?

I’m not an expert, but I expected the bags to be solid by now. Not mushy or quite liquid (as I found out when I prodded one of the bags enthusiastically).

The freezer is not young. Perhaps it needs recharging, like the air conditioner in the car. Or maybe I need another freezer to freeze things before I put them in the freezer.
