Endurance tests

04Jul11

I’ve just found out that someone I know did a sponsored walk last month. He joined a group of people who walked 200 miles across a desert and he raised £30,000. They carried all their kit, apart from water, which was delivered by helicopter to pre-arranged points (a good incentive to keep walking). At night the temperature was below freezing and during the day it was fearsomely hot. They had to shelter during the hottest part of the day and then catch up some distance at night by torchlight.

Today I went out for a ride on my bike. It was quite hot and there was a headwind all the way going out and coming back. After I had cycled ten miles I rode over some broken glass and got a puncture. My tyre was cut beyond repair. I had to phone Mrs R to come and rescue me in the van. She was having her lunch and was quite cross. I nearly ran out of water while I was waiting for her.

I didn’t ask anyone to sponsor me.
