Flying, a kite

At risk of sounding like David Attenborough’s blog, I have to record my delight at seeing a red kite wheeling above Heathrow airport this evening. A red kite is a bird of prey, not on a string.

This may be a natural visitor, there are many kites resident not far away down the motorway. But having seen that the owners of Heathrow are under financial pressure to improve service and cut costs, it is possible that the bird was actually employed to help reduce delays or to guide aircraft on the ground.

I hope that it doesn’t get sucked into our engines when we take off.
