Sepp Blatter, President of the Federation, sounds like a minor villain ruling a teetering , corrupt empire in one of the Star Wars sequels, but he seemed avuncular enough as he graciously received a massive book from David Beckham on Friday.

It’s beginning to look as if the book will never be read, as England’s bid to host the 2018 world cup becomes mired in scandal.

England’s bid apparently cost over £15 million to assemble and present. I’m not surprised by this. As soon as I saw the picture of the nation’s best-dressed former footballer handing over the 1,800 page volume to President Blatter I immediately thought, “That looks expensive and inefficient. Why didn’t they email it to him?”

I bet that the President of the Federation has an email drone who could scan the content and present an unbiased opinion in a matter of moments.
