My route to work today was blocked by a scrum. Grown men and women were pushing each other with cameras and microphones. Policewomen were urging passers by to move along.

Walking along Whitehall is an adventure at the moment. I dawdled a bit in case anyone asked me to take a seat in the Cabinet.

Politics has suddenly become interesting. Everyone is able to voice an opinion, safe in the knowledge that no one knows what will happen next. It is like the ash cloud all over again, but with fewer stranded families.

ps The washing line is fixed. In the national interest I did not implement a radical change to the constitution whilst there was turmoil in the markets. Instead I created a rather shaky alliance of old red bricks and liberally hammered soft plastic minorities. I’m not convinced that it will last if there is a storm.
