Photo opportunist

I walked down Ludgate Hill. The vast bulk of St Paul’s Cathedral casting a shadow across the road behind me.

“Sorry,” said a bearded central European with a large camera and a small girlfriend hanging round his neck, blocking my path. “Sorry,” he said again, “St Paul’s Cathedral please?” He gestured around in the manner of someone asking for directions.

I hesitated, then turned and pointed at the skyline-dominating mass of freshly cleaned Portland stone topped by a glistening dome just behind me.

He looked up at Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece. His girlfriend tittered.

“Ah, St Paul’s Cathedral,” he repeated – and looked a bit disappointed.
