It’s my birthday soon. My son would like to give me a present. He told me what I need to do…

I’ve just searched on Amazon for a book that I want and checked that there is a copy in stock. Then I emailed him a link to the relevant page and used my credit card to purchase an Amazon gift voucher for roughly the same value (slightly more actually), which was sent to him by email as digital pocket money. He then used the gift voucher to buy the book in question (I hope). The book will be delivered during the day when he is at school, so I will probably have to answer the door and accept the package on his behalf.  When he gets home perhaps he will wrap the book in suitable paper from a supply purchased and maintained by Mrs R.

It’s the thought that counts.

We have received one ‘real’ present from our children (2 girls aged 9 and 7 at the time). They organised Granny to help them buy a frame and print off a family photo they remembered being taken. It all got wrapped and put under the Christmas tree with great secrecy.

It was the best present ever probably because of the thought and planning they put into it (and that Granny really paid for it rather than us)!

But it will be such a lovely surprise if you receive something else! (Possibly to your son, too.)

I hope you’ve grown to like death metal music
